Clear Waters

by Richard McGill

We expect water to run from our taps
and the waste from sinks and toilets to be purified
before returning to the environment
Sadly, selling this essential utility off has resulted in cynical theft of it’s assets and rampant pollution in our rivers, lakes and sea

A walk along the river side,
such a lovely day

The birds are singing loud
full of their joyful play

Puffy clouds in a blue sky
warm with perfect sun

Fields with sheep and new born lambs
bounce with innocent fun

Far away across the fields
beyond the tree

Children with their soaring kites
happy sounds of glee

The river has an obscene flash
silver floats so still

Fishes dead are gathered here
unseen made it’s kill

A sewer pipe from man to nature
should be oh, so dry

But spewing crap like no tomorrow
make me want to cry

We privatised the water board
to make a better land

But profits stolen, left to rot
cursed be the grabbing hand

Sold to mates as market shares
with promised better times

From our sufferance we now see
most wretched of all crimes

A watchdog was put into place
to keep them on their toes

A toothless tame poodle has
done nothing for our woes

A walk along the river side
such a lovely day

The birds are singing loud
full of joy and play

Sold to mates as market shares
with promised better times

From our sufferance we now see
most wretched of all crimes
